According to SportWitness, West Ham have made the best offer for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgian played for Arsenal from 2009 until 2014, making 110 competitive appearances. He then transferred to FC Barcelona, where he made only eleven appearances.
Many clubs around Europe, including Inter Milan and AS Roma have enquired about him, but West Ham look to be in pole position to get his signature.
Fellow Premier League team Liverpool have enquired about him, however, they are reported to be no longer interested in him.
Vermaelen is currently on international duty with Belgium, who have played well, and Vermaelen is arguably the best defender in the team.
West Ham have reportedly offered Barcelona €10m for him, which works out at around £8.3m. This could be considered a good deal, as Vermaelen is 30 years old, and that Barcelona paid £15m for him, therefore West Ham would be getting a better deal on him.
However, if he plays well for Belgium, will West Ham’s bid increase?
