West Ham heaped even more pressure on Aston Villa on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 2-0 home win.
The visitors’ chances of staying in the Premier League next season look all but gone after they put in a performance of a side that are cut adrift at the foot of the table.
Slaven Bilic will have been pleased with the professional display that his players produced. They knew from minute one that they were the better side, and after the early red card for Villa’s Jordan Ayew, there was only going to be one winner.
Even though they had to wait until the second half to go ahead, and then for a later goal to seal the victory, the Hammers will be pleased with their night’s work.
Villa will feel aggrieved at the first goal, scored by Michail Antonio, as the winger looked offside, but the flag stayed down.
The second came on the break. Villa packed the box looking for an equaliser, but the cross was defended well by West Ham, who then broke with pace and Cheikhou Kouyate secured the win.
