West Ham are a ‘mid-table’ club according to ex-player

According to former West Ham and current Fulham FC midfielder Scott Parker, West Ham United are a ‘mid-table’ team. Parker’s comments come after The Irons slumped to a 4-1 defeat against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite West Ham’s defeat this weekend, Bilic’s side have largely been performing well, prompting many fans to feel that they are better than a supposed ‘mid-table’ team.

After the weekend’s action, West Ham currently occupy the 6th position, just five points off 4th place.

However, speaking after The Hammers loss to Spurs, Parker, who was speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday said:

West Ham are a mid table team, they have some very good players and I see this as just a blip in confidence. [Slaven] Bilic is right when he says 4-1 in a London derby hurts a little bit more and they need to try and regroup a bit.

Sky pundit and former England international Jamie Redknapp agreed with Parker’s thoughts about West Ham’s season. Redknapp said:

I think they are punching above their weight.

The former Liverpool midfielder also added

Bilic has done a great job and they’re playing good football but I think they’re a mid-table team.

Considering West Ham are currently five points off of 4th in the Premier League and their next four fixtures in the league come against West Brom, Man United, Stoke and Swansea, it is hard to agree with Parker and Redknapp.

If West Ham can find their form again they could well be in contention for European football.
