The never ending saga is drawing to a close as Charlie Austin is ready to join West Ham from QPR, according to The Standard.
Austin, who’s impressive goal tally last season in the Premier League earned him an England call-up, is preparing to move across the capital and up one division to the Hammers. Slaven Bilic is intending to bolster his striking options after being left with only Mauro Zarate, Diafra Sakho and Modibo Maïga as his only strikers for the next couple of months.
The 26-year-old only has 1 year left on his contract, but still played and scored against Cardiff at the weekend despite QPR boss Chris Ramsey saying that he is almost certain to leave this transfer window.
Newly promoted Bournemouth were the latest side to join in the tussle for the 2nd highest English scorer in the Premier League last season along with Spurs, Southampton, Everton and Newcastle, but the reason for the stall is that all the sides are put off by QPR’s £15million price tag.
West Ham haven’t made an official bid since the £11million plus Matt Jarvis deal was rejected, but both Slaven Bilic and David Gold have said that West Ham are still in the market for another striker.
Austin could be joining one of his current teammates at West Ham, as the Hammers are desperately trying to secure the signature of Rob Green to replace Adrian for his 3 game suspension. Green spent 7 years at Upton Park and is still regarded highly among the East London faithful.
