Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is adamant that West Ham target Javier Hernandez will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer, according to Inside Futbol .
The Mexican international spent last season out on loan at Real Madrid and was reduced to irregular appearances as he found himself sitting on the bench losing out to Karim Benzema.
At the end of the season, Los Blancos refused to make the move permanent for Chicharito, and therefore he returned to Manchester, where interest from the Hammers, Spurs and the MLS awaited.
In an attempt to end all interest in the striker, van Gaal has said that he says him as Rooney’s backup when needed. When the English forward drops deeper, Hernandez could find himself leading United’s front line.
So now, Hernandez has options. Either wait for Rooney to be dropped into a deeper role at United, move elsewhere in the Premier League or move to America.
Speaking to the official club website, here’s what van Gaal had to say:
“Our aim is to play with Rooney in the striker’s position.
“We have chosen him and Chicharito will be the substitute, but Rooney can also play in the no.10 position, so Chicharito has a chance to play in the striker’s position.
“Normally, though, Rooney will play because we have the confidence that he will score more than 20 goals there, which is more than the strikers did last year.”
