The Mirror today explained how West Ham’s new dynamic playmaker made the journey to East London thanks to a former teammate and ex-Hammer.
Frenchman, Dimitri Payet, explained how meeting Joe Cole at former club, Lille, played a vital role in persuading him to join the East London side. After signing for £10.7 million last month, he told the newspaper “Joe Cole motivated me to sign for West Ham.”
And in a moment sure to capture claret and blue hearts, Payet expressed his desire “to go out and give 100 per cent if I want to go into the same category as people like Joe Cole and Paolo Di Canio.”
The exciting midfielder grabbed an assist on his debut at Arsenal on Sunday but confessed he did not feel the club’s exit from the Europa League would have a negative impact on their season.
“The real question is whether the Europa League was really of use to us this season… I don’t think so.”
