West Ham United have stepped up their interest in Hull City forward Nikica Jelavic, according to the Hull Daily Mail. It was first reported earlier in the week that the Irons were going to make a bid for the goal scorer.
The Hammers are still on the hunt for a striker, and the need to sign one has only increased following the lengthy injury to Ecuadorian frontman Enner Valencia, whilst Andy Carroll still remains on the side-lines.
Jelavic would link up well with new manager Slaven Bilic, as the pair have worked together previously for the Croatian national team. The striker scored eight goals in the Premier League during the 2014/15 campaign, in spite of Hull’s relegation to the Championship.
The 29-year-old could be signed for as a little as £3million, as Tigers manager Steve Bruce looks to cut down on the club’s wage bill. He is currently Hull’s highest earner, at £30,000 a week.
