West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed that the club are still trying to sign defensive midfielder Alex Song, according to the Nick Purewal of the Evening Standard.
The 27-year-old was set to sign on the dotted line at the Boleyn Ground for the second consecutive summer, however an injury problem with the Cameroonian’s ankle has put the deal in the air.
Bilic has said that: ‘We are in contact, but that’s not for the media yet’. Song first came to prominence at Upton Park last summer, when he was signed on loan from Barcelona by previous Hammers manager Sam Allardyce.
The Croatian also claims that Song may not necessarily be the only potential new arrival. ‘If we can find a player, or maximum two, who are going to make us better then we definitely want to do it. We have to like the player and the player has to be free, or payable and a good investment for the club’.
