Manager Slaven Bilic has identified winger Aaron Lennon as a replacement for Stewart Downing, reports Ken Dyer of The Evening Standard.
28-year-old Lennon has emerged as a top target for Hammers boss Bilic, and the Englishman could be another option for Bilic, if a second bid for Everton attacking midfielder Kevin Mirallas is rejected.
Lennon spent the latter part of last season on loan with Everton, and has a year remaining on his current deal at White Hart Lane. He is valued at £9million, a price deemed too high by the Merseyside club.
Premier League rivals Tottenham have been reluctant to do business with West Ham in recent seasons, following the decision in 2011 by the Olympic Park Legacy Company to award the Hammers The Olympic Stadium.
Lennon has been at the North London Club since 2005, when he made the move from fellow English club Leeds United. He has 33 goals in 421 career appearances.
