Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will reject a move to the MLS with hopes of continuing his career in the Premier League with West Ham.
The Hammers have made a £9m bid for the Mexican forward, which is believed to be very close to Manchester United’s asking price, and an agreement is expected to be reached.
ESPN sources understand that Hernandez is underwhelmed by the contract offer suggested to him from MLS sides, and is now expected to rebuff any future contact.
Hernandez had contact with Orlando City FC, and Mexican teammate Giovani dos Santos just completed his move to LA Galaxy to play alongside of Steven Gerrard.
However, from a source consulted by ESPN FC, “Chicharito” would prefer to stay in Europe and was only curious about MLS and American soccer.
West Ham are keen to bring in another striker, with links to Mattia Destro, Loic Remy, and Charlie Austin among the lot, and Hernandez is reportedly open to a move to Upton Park.
Andy Carroll will miss the beginning of the season yet again, and Enner Valencia and Mauro Zarate have nagging injuries.
West Ham’s co-owner’s David Gold and David Sullivan want to give manager Slaven Bilic plenty of attacking options for the last season at the Boleyn Ground, and the 27-year-old Hernandez is a proven attacker in the Premier League, a requirement for West Ham.
Hernandez scored 7 goals in La Liga for Real Madrid last season on loan from Manchester United. Deemed a “super-sub” in Manchester, Hernandez is keen on getting consistent first team football, something West Ham certainly can offer.
Bilic, when asked about Hernandez, said “I will not discuss the players who are not here. We are trying to be active in the transfer window and the board have been active.”
