Arsenal have rejected an £8million bid from Southampton for right-back Carl Jenkinson, according to The Telegraph. The 23-year-old is expected to complete a second consecutive loan move to the Boleyn Ground within due course.
Ronald Koeman’s side are looking for a new right-back, following the departure of fellow Englishman Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool. Jenkinson was signed by manager Arsene Wenger in the summer of 2011 for £1million, from Championship side Charlton.
Slaven Bilic will be glad that the transfer offer was rejected by the North London club, as Jenkinson has been a key target for the Hammers for rather a while.
The right-back, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan, has one goal in 57 appearances for the Gunners. He spent the previous campaign on loan at Upton Park, in which he appeared 36 times.
In addition to being eligible for Finland and Sweden at international level, Jenkinson has made one international appearance for the England national side.
