West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing looks set to complete his £6m move to Middlesbrough this week, claims the Daily Mail.
With Slaven Bilic bringing in a lot of new players with the way he wants to play he also looks to offload players. With the recent arrival of attacking midfielder Dmitri Payet, he will respect the England international’s wishes by allowing him to make his much desired move back to the North East.
Middlesbrough are looking to increase their squad strength ahead of another arduous Championship campaign by bringing in quality and experience. Stewart has great experience of the Premier League previously playing at Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham. The 30-year-old started his career with Boro, making 181 appearances for the club.
West ham bought the Englishman from Liverpool for £5m in the summer of 2013, and he has enjoyed a renaissance to his career, and has recently earned a recall to the national squad following his impressive form.
Downing was omitted from yesterday’s pre-season squad against Peterborough as a move looks likely to be completed in the coming days.
