PSG have slapped a £10 million price tag on French midfielder Yohan Cabaye’s head, and with both West Ham and Crystal Palace prepared to meet the figure, the Hammers may be set for long drawn out negotiations against former manager, Alan Pardew.
Co-owners David Gold and Sullivan have made no attempts to hide their desire to bring Cabaye back to the league where he made his name, and are prepared to meet his current club’s demands to sign him.
The midfielder could prove to be a star buy in the transfer market with the club looking to utilise his European experience in their Europa League campaign. Pardew, who has overseen management of both West Ham and Cabaye, may feel in a tougher position than the former; unable to offer European football and with a tighter transfer kitty.
New boss Slaven Bilic also offers an interesting project to one of France’s former midfield anchors, with the chance of playing at the Olympic Stadium when West Ham move there in time for the beginning of the 2016-17 season. Cabaye equally needs a viable opportunity to launch himself back into international contention with Euro 2016 less than a year away.
With just 35 appearances and 3 goals in his time in the French capital, Cabaye has slipped down the pecking order for his country. However, with West Ham needing strength in depth for next season, he would most likely get the game time necessary to prove himself useful to France coach Didier Deschamps.
