Renowned sports journalist Giancarlo Di Marzio claims that West Ham is close to completing the signing of Pedro Obiang from Italian club Sampdoria.
It was reported earlier in the week that Sampdoria club president Massimo Ferrero was flying over to negotiate a deal with West Ham, which later developed into the Serie A side wanting striker Enner Valencia in return.
However, Di Marzio reports this afternoon that a deal has been struck between the Hammers and Sampdoria for Obiang, and all that remains is for him to sign the dotted line.
Agreement reached between the clubs for about six million euro, now lacks only the signature of the same Obiang , who before accepting the transfer has evaluated other possible destinations. The deal will not return Enner Valencia striker West Ham to Sampdoria.
The 23 year-old Spanish midfielder has been linked to a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, though West Ham are now thought to be the hot favourites.
Reports suggest the midfielder will command a €6m (£4.3m) fee, having joined current club Sampdoria from Atletico Madrid B in July 2010. Obiang has been ever-present for the Blucerchiati this season, winning three “Man of the Matches” in 34 Serie A appearances.
