23-year-old English defender Carl Jenkinson will be made available for a season-long loan deal next season, this year Jenkinson has impressed while on loan at fellow Premier League club West Ham United. Arsene Wenger has refused to let the young defender leave Arsenal permanently and Wenger is wanting to monitor his progress at another Premier League club next season.
The Arsenal manager was torn between including Jenkinson in his plans for next season or freeing him for another season-long loan spell. The news will spark a scramble for the defender’s signature ahead of the new season. Jenkinson impressed for West Ham making 32 apperances, and his displays didn’t go unnoticed by Wenger.
The 23-year-old’s future at the Emirates Stadium looked bleak following the arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, who both arrived as right-backs in 2014 summer transfer window. Furthermore, the emergence of Hector Bellerin has caused another obstacle for Jenkinson in his quest to secure a first-team place at Arsenal. Over the course of this season Mathieu Debuchy made 10 appearances, Calum Chambers made 23 appearances and youngster Hector Bellerin made 27 appearances and also scoring twice.
However, the Gunners are not prepared to let the former Charlton right back leave on a permanent deal ahead of next season and want to monitor his progress at another Premier League club.
Could Jenkinson return to West Ham for a second season?
