West Ham has completed the signing of Brazilian winger Nene, on a free deal until the end of the season. It comes after his release from his previous club Al-Gharafa, in which he netted 21 goals in 44 games, and The Hammers have taken the opportunity to snap up the free agent.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who was also being chased by fellow Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, is a fantastic piece of business by manager Sam Allardyce, especially following a very quiet January transfer window. It allows him to bolster his attacking options, with Andy Carroll already being ruled out for the rest of the current campaign.
As well as being a target man, Nene can also play on the left hand side of an attack. This is an area that does indeed need strengthening, as we have been struggling for choice here since Matt Jarvis has become out of favour. The fresh face also offers fantastic crossing ability, with his trademark pinpoint assists being showcased many a time in past Champions Leagues, whilst he can also strike a fantastic free-kick with his left foot.
There was a scare that transfer business was going to be really rather difficult at Upton Park, and we saw last week that we were unable to complete a deal for Diarra, but thankfully Nene is now a West Ham United player. The Brazilian will wear the number 12 jersey, and also has an option to extend his contract beyond the end of the season.
