Fletcher Deal Draws Closer

Experienced Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is poised to join West Ham United as he undergoes a medical at the club’s training facilities in Chadwell Heath.

The Scotsman, who can play in the middle of the park or in a defensive role, has been out of favour at Old Trafford since the arrival of Louis Van Gaal and looks set to be continuing his career at Upton Park. The deal is expected to see Fletcher sign on the dotted line on a three and a half year deal, whilst earning £75,000 per week for the services that he can bring to Sam Allardyce at Upton Park.

At 31 years of age, it is hard to see whether Fletcher will be a regular starter week in week out, but he certainly offers a fantastic back-up role for The Hammers as they look to continue their fantastic season so far. Nonetheless, it is not very often you see a Champions League winner signing for West Ham, so many of the home faithful should not see an issue with this signing.

Furthermore, a player must have star quality if they have over 300 appearances for a club as prestigious as Man United. The transfer should go ahead smoothly; with Van Gaal already saying his farewell to his third captain, and saying that he believes ‘Darren Fletcher is now in West Ham’.

Fletcher has spent his entire footballing career so far at Manchester United, so saying goodbye to a 20 year stint may be tough for the veteran, but hopefully his emotion will not get in the way of his skills on the pitch, with The Red Devils being our next opponent at the Boleyn Ground. The deal may allow future talents such as Diego Poyet to go out on loan for the remainder of the season, with many Championship sides said to be interested in him, namely Watford.
