West Ham are looking to do something they haven’t done in over 50 years this weekend: win at Anfield. The last time the Hammers won away to Liverpool was in 1963, hopefully they can go against history this weekend and come away with all three points.
The two sides are separated by once place and one point in the table, with West Ham just above their counterparts. West Ham are on a six game unbeaten run in all competitions, four of which have been draws. Meanwhile, Liverpool boast a nine game unbeaten run, six of which coming in the Premier League as they continue their surge towards a top four place.
Liverpool hope to have Daniel Sturridge fit for this game, as he has missed the majority of the season through injury. Sturridge is back in training and could feature tonight for the Reds in their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea, his former club. A win for Liverpool this weekend could take them as high as sixth place, depending on other results.
As for the Hammers, they’re in seventh place as we stand, and could jump up to fifth, depending on results. Diafra Sakho returned to action on the weekend, scoring the winner against Bristol City in the FA Cup, making it 10 goals in 16 games for the club this season, and is set to start against Liverpool this weekend.
The Hammers won the reverse fixture earlier this season, with a comfortable 3-1 win at Upton Park with goals from Sakho, Winston Reid and Morgan Amalfitano. Raheem Sterling also scored for Liverpool. This has all the makings for another entertaining fixture!
