# Scott Parker wants answers: West Ham fans need to hear this

**Scott Parker has achieved an immediate impact with his West Ham team after Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Cardiff City, even if it’s not the outcome everyone wanted.**

One point was very nearly three, but the gallant second-half showing is a solid base to build on.

The new boss has vowed to ask questions of his players starting today, and his words should have the fans listening and looking forward to what will follow.

Speaking after [Cardiff City 3-3 West Ham United](https://readwestham.com/2026/11/05/cardiff-city-3-3-west-ham-united-all-the-goals-all-the-reaction/) in South Wales, Parker was at a loss to explain how the team could be so poor initially, yet so impressive in the second half.

With that equation, he needs to untangle many of the bad habits and patterns from the season so far. If he is successful, there’s enough evidence to suggest the quality in the squad can push the club up the Championship table to where it needs to be.

This is where Parker’s influence and actions will be crucial.

Having just met the players on Wednesday morning, there’s only so much influence he could have had on the Cardiff game, but he didn’t waste the opportunity presented to him at half-time.

## Scott Parker reacts to Cardiff draw

The boss gave his [initial assessment of the game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Aynx5cYgX8&t=230s):

“In the first half, we were clearly really poor. I thought we were poor in both phases of the game – out of possession we were quite passive at certain moments, and with the ball there was certainly a lot to work on.

“There were a lot of backwards passes, and the goalkeeper had a lot of touches.”

Then the three-time West Ham Player of the Year provided insight into his thinking, demands and what Scott Parker’s Hammers should look like.

“The second half was a forceful team, and you need to take risks with the ball.

“You’re going to need to risk balls, you’re going to have to cross balls, and you’re going to have to put bodies in the box.

“You’re going to have to be dynamic with your runs from deep areas. I tried to get that across and emphasise that there’s no point in just building, building, building.

“I thought in the second half we did that really well. You’ve seen the talent we have, and the assists and goals were taken really well.”

Very encouraging. Then he made the remarks on questions, to really connect with the players, to build a better connection and elicit the desired response on the pitch.

## Scott Parker wants answers

“There are two days before the next game now, and I can’t wait to get in tomorrow morning.

“I can’t wait to get this group in a meeting and ask some questions, for sure.

“There are elements where you don’t understand certain things, in terms of how things changed so drastically, and I’ve said all along, you need to be consistent and play in a certain way.

“There’s a lot of learning to take from this. It’s a quick turnaround, but we’ll go to Blackburn with a bit more learning, and certainly a bit more influence from me.

It’s a statement of intent from Scott Parker, who will seek to move beyond [Nuno Espírito Santo’s](https://readwestham.com/2026/11/03/dreadful-really-poor-west-ham-half-asleep-tony-cottee-eviscerates-nuno/) methods and messages to mould this talented Irons side into his own image.

The new gaffer will be judged on actions – and performances – not words, but already the soundings are more like what is required to arrest the malaise and fire West Ham back into contention at the top of the Championship.
