# West Ham vs Southampton: Form guide, head-to-head

**West Ham vs Southampton is shaping up to be a cracking Championship clash on Saturday afternoon.**

The Saints head to the London Stadium unbeaten in their last three games, with no goals conceded since the 2-1 loss away to Wrexham last month.

[Tonda Eckert’s](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/crx23l3v7qyzo) side will be a difficult opponent for West Ham, with [Nuno Espírito Santo](https://readwestham.com/2026/10/17/nuno-lauded-west-ham-tactics-swansea/) needing to meet the challenge head-on.

However, the Hammers go into the game with their own solid run of form, with two wins on the road and two draws, since their last defeat, at home to Fulham on 15 September.

Second meets eighth in the 3pm kick-off on Saturday, and this game could be a springboard from a West Ham perspective.

West Ham vs Southampton is the first of four league fixtures before the November international break.

The Irons are now just one point behind league leaders [Swansea City](https://readwestham.com/2026/10/17/nuno-reacts-to-swansea-win-west-ham-boss-speaks-post-match/), and that top spot is in sight.

If Nuno’s men can hold their current form through the next four games, there’s a genuine opportunity to go into the next break at the top of the pile.

That must be the objective, one game at a time.

### Something has to give

West Ham vs Southampton sees the most prolific team in the league take on the second-best defence, to date.

An intriguing game lies ahead, and it will come down to who can impose themselves the most on the other side.

Southampton won’t want an open, expansive game, but West Ham can’t be too reserved to concede the upper hand to the visitors.

The Hammers did a job on Swandea last weekend, but now the onus is on the home team to take the initiative.

Over to you, Nuno.
