# Jarrod Bowen details what matters most after Swansea success

**Jarrod Bowen insists results are what matter most after West Ham’s gritty 1-0 win at Swansea City on Saturday.**

The visitors ground out a vital victory away at Championship leaders Swansea, after [Divine Mukasa’s first-half strike](https://readwestham.com/2026/10/17/west-ham-highlights-divine-mukasa-goal/) proved decisive at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The win lifted Nuno Espírito Santo’s side into second place and within a point of the top.

It was Swansea’s first home league defeat of the season and ended their four-game winning run.

## Points over perfection for Bowen

Speaking to [West Ham TV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV9HFXJnXOE&t=4s) after the match, Bowen acknowledged that his side had not produced their most fluent performance but stressed the value of finding a way to win against strong opposition.

“We knew we’d have our opportunities to score and the goal was a really well worked goal,” said Bowen

“I think we had a couple of other chances and on another day they go in.

“We rode our luck a little bit but in the end you [win 1-0 away from home](https://readwestham.com/2026/10/17/swansea-west-ham-match-report-mukasa/) against the side that is top of the league, that’s all that everyone remembers.”

The skipper expanded on the need for different types of victories during a promotion campaign:

“If you want to be dominant and do well this season you have to have all sorts of wins, it’s not going to be pretty every single week, it’s not going to be perfect.

“There’s going to be times when we’re below our levels – and we probably weren’t at our highest level (at Swansea) and we’ve come away with a 1-0 result so that’s all anyone is going to remember.”

### Hammers now have platform for progress

Bowen’s comments came in response to some Swansea supporters questioning West Ham’s credentials after the visitors’ display.

The captain’s message was clear. Grinding out results when not at full flow is an essential part of a successful season.

West Ham created several opportunities to extend their lead, with Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux making important saves from Bowen on more than one occasion.

At the other end, Ben Cabango rattled the crossbar for the hosts, but the Hammers’ defence held firm to secure a clean sheet.

The result completed a strong week for West Ham, who had thrashed Lincoln City 6-0 in midweek, and keeps them firmly in the automatic promotion conversation.

A swift return to the Premier League is the sole objective.
