# Carlton Cole Backs Jarrod Bowen for England Recall After Latest Snub

Former West Ham United striker Carlton Cole has backed Jarrod Bowen to force his way back into the England squad despite the Hammers competing in the Championship.

Bowen was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s original 27-man group for the September and October international window and has still not been recalled following five injury withdrawals.

However, Cole believes the division West Ham currently play in should not prevent the captain from earning another opportunity.

## Cole Backs Bowen for England Return

Speaking in a fresh interview with the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/thomas-tuchel-england-squad-bowen-37699053), Cole argued that Bowen’s performances should remain the determining factor rather than West Ham’s Championship status.

That view is supported by the winger’s early-season output.

Bowen has recorded **four goals and three assists in eight Championship appearances**, leaving him joint-top of West Ham’s league scoring chart.

Our [West Ham top scorers tracker](https://readwestham.com/2026/09/22/west-ham-top-scorers-2026-27/) shows only Dinos Mavropanos has matched Bowen’s four league goals.

## Bowen Still Outside England Squad

England [confirmed five withdrawals](https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2026/Sep/21/england-men-september-october-2026-squad-updates) earlier this week, with James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White subsequently added to Tuchel’s group.

Bowen was not called up.

That leaves the 29-year-old at West Ham throughout the international break as Nuno Espírito Santo prepares for the Championship restart.

The Hammers return against QPR on 9 October, with the full run covered in our [West Ham next five fixtures guide](https://readwestham.com/2026/09/21/west-ham-next-five-fixtures/).

For Bowen, the clearest route back into England contention remains maintaining the form that has made him one of West Ham’s most productive players this season.
