# West Ham U21s Chase Back-to-Back Wins Against Leicester

West Ham United U21s will look to build on their victory over Liverpool when they travel to face Leicester City on Friday evening.

Mark Robson’s side secured their first Premier League 2 win of the season on Monday, beating Liverpool 1-0 at Rush Green.

Joel Kerr scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute to give the young Hammers three points after a competitive encounter.

West Ham now have an opportunity to put together consecutive league victories against a Leicester side still searching for their first Premier League 2 win of the campaign.

## West Ham U21s build momentum after Liverpool win

Monday’s result was an important step for Robson’s young squad.

West Ham had opened their Premier League 2 campaign with a draw against Southampton before losing 5-4 to Chelsea despite Josh Landers scoring four times.

The Liverpool victory therefore provided their first three-point return of the league season.

West Ham’s official channels have since published [highlights from the 1-0 win over Liverpool](https://www.whufc.com/en/video), with Kerr’s late goal proving enough to separate the teams.

The result also continued an encouraging start across all competitions.

Before facing Liverpool, the U21s had already recorded away victories over Worthing and Aldershot Town in the National League Cup.

That gives Robson several signs that his young group are beginning to develop consistency.

## Leicester struggling before West Ham visit

Leicester enter Friday’s game in much less convincing Premier League 2 form.

The Foxes were beaten 3-0 by Brighton last time out, their second successive league defeat.

[Leicester’s official match report confirmed they remain without a Premier League 2 victory](https://www.lcfc.com/media-article/leicester-city-u21s-under-21-brighton-hove-albion-match-report-premier-league-2-pl2) heading into the meeting with West Ham.

They were also beaten 4-1 by Manchester United earlier this month after opening the campaign with a goalless draw against Blackburn Rovers.

That should give West Ham confidence.

However, academy football can be unpredictable, particularly when first-team involvement changes the availability of players from week to week.

Robson will therefore want his side to reproduce the discipline they showed against Liverpool rather than simply expect Leicester’s difficult start to continue.

## West Ham youngsters pushing for further progress

The U21s have already produced several notable individual performances this season.

Landers’ four-goal display against Chelsea was the obvious standout despite the defeat, while Kerr provided the decisive contribution against Liverpool.

West Ham’s academy continues to play an important role in the wider first-team picture.

Lewis Orford and Divine Mukasa have both featured prominently for Nuno Espírito Santo’s senior side this season, demonstrating the pathway available to players performing consistently at youth level.

That should provide extra motivation for the next group attempting to attract attention.

Friday’s fixture kicks off at **7pm BST at Leicester City’s training ground**, with Leicester confirming West Ham as their next Premier League 2 opponents.

A second successive victory would give Robson’s side valuable momentum heading into the next stage of the campaign.

After beating Liverpool, West Ham now have the opportunity to show that result was the start of a run rather than an isolated success.
