# West Ham issue Pablo Felipe injury update before Southampton cup tie

**West Ham have issued a [Pablo Felipe](https://readwestham.com/tag/pablo-felipe/) injury update ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Southampton, confirming the forward remains under assessment after missing the defeat against Charlton Athletic.**

Pablo sustained a calf problem during West Ham’s opening Championship fixture at Burnley and was substituted at half-time.

The Brazilian subsequently missed Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat against Charlton, leaving Nuno Espírito Santo without another attacking option.

[West Ham’s official Southampton preview](https://www.whufc.com/en/news/southampton-v-west-ham-united-or-all-you-need-to-know?utm_source=chatgpt.com) confirms Pablo continues to be assessed before the trip to St Mary’s.

## Pablo Felipe injury leaves Nuno weighing attacking options

The club has not confirmed whether Pablo will recover in time for Tuesday evening or provided a specific return date.

His absence against Charlton opened the door for [Joel Piroe](https://readwestham.com/tag/joel-piroe/), who [became the 100th player to score on his West Ham debut](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/22/joel-piroe-makes-west-ham-history-after-charlton-debut-goal/?utm_source=chatgpt.com).

Piroe and Taty Castellanos remain available to Nuno, although the quick turnaround between fixtures could force the West Ham head coach to consider changes.

Our [predicted West Ham XI against Southampton](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/23/west-ham-predicted-xi-v-southampton-nuno-could-make-five-changes/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) outlines where rotation could occur.

There is better news involving Keiber Lamadrid, who returned to the substitutes’ bench against Charlton after recovering from an injury sustained during pre-season.

[Southampton’s official match preview](https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/news/article/match-pack-saints-vs-west-ham-2026-08-25?utm_source=chatgpt.com) suggests the winger could now come into contention for a starting place.

Tomáš Souček remains sidelined with an ankle ligament injury suffered during the World Cup, increasing the likelihood of midfield changes. [James Ward-Prowse could make his first start of the season](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/24/west-ham-could-hand-james-ward-prowse-first-start-against-southampton/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) against his former club.

Pablo’s continued absence also underlines why [West Ham are reportedly targeting four further signings](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/24/west-ham-target-four-signings-as-nuno-identifies-priority-positions/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), with another forward among the positions being considered.

For now, Nuno must wait to discover whether Pablo can return at Southampton or whether his attacking options will remain restricted.
