West Ham United defender Ria Bose has been selected to represent England at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland next month.
The 20-year-old has been named in Lydia Bedford’s Young Lionesses squad for the tournament, which runs from 5-27 September.
Bose has been a regular part of England’s preparations throughout the summer and has now secured her place for the finals after featuring in camps against some of the strongest youth nations in the world.
West Ham confirmed Bose’s World Cup selection on Friday.
Ria Bose completes World Cup progression with England
Bose’s selection represents another significant step after she was previously called into England’s preparation squad earlier this summer.
ReadWestHam highlighted Bose’s growing international role in July when she travelled to the United States for matches against the USA and Colombia.
She has continued to establish herself within Bedford’s group.
Bose started England’s 1-1 draw against the United States in July and featured during the penalty-shootout victory over Colombia.
The defender then played 62 minutes of England’s 2-0 win over Portugal earlier this month in their final major preparation fixture before the World Cup. (whufc.com)
England will begin their tournament against Canada on Saturday 5 September at 5pm BST before facing Tanzania three days later.
Their final Group B fixture comes against Brazil on Friday 11 September.
Bose joined West Ham from Sporting CP in January and made her WSL debut towards the end of last season.
Her World Cup involvement provides another opportunity to gain high-level competitive experience before returning to Rita Guarino’s squad for the new domestic campaign.
England’s best previous performance at the tournament was a third-place finish in 2018.
Bose will now have the opportunity to help the Young Lionesses challenge again while continuing a significant year in her own development.
