# West Ham officially announce £22m Arne Engels signing from Celtic

**West Ham United have officially announced the signing of Arne Engels from Celtic, completing a deal reportedly worth £22million for the Belgium international. Engels becomes the latest addition to Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad ahead of Sunday’s Championship opener against Burnley.**

## Arne Engels West Ham transfer officially completed

Engels joins from Celtic after West Ham reached a full agreement with the Scottish champions on Friday.

[ReadWestHam reported that a £22m deal had been agreed with Celtic](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/14/done-deal-west-ham-reach-full-22m-arne-engels-agreement/), with Florian Plettenberg also reporting that the midfielder had agreed a long-term contract.

Saturday evening’s announcement has now turned that reported agreement into a completed signing.

[The Scottish Sun reports](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/16685215/arne-engels-celtic-exit-west-ham-transfer-news/) that West Ham will pay **£22m** for Engels and that he has signed a **five-year contract**.

Engels leaves Celtic having made 100 appearances for the Glasgow club, scoring 17 goals and providing 22 assists. He also won two Scottish Premiership titles, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup during his time at Celtic Park.

West Ham’s interest had developed from a much earlier stage. Nuno now has another important option in the centre of the pitch as West Ham attempt to secure an immediate Premier League return.

Attention will quickly turn to whether Engels is available to make his debut against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

For now, though, West Ham have finally secured one of their leading summer targets and completed another significant piece of their Championship rebuild.
