# Tomas Soucek could return early after surprise West Ham injury update

**West Ham United have received encouraging news on Tomas Soucek, with the midfielder reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery from the ankle ligament injury that has kept him out of Nuno Espírito Santo’s plans this summer.**

Souček suffered the injury while representing Czechia against Mexico at the World Cup and was subsequently confirmed by West Ham to have damaged ligaments in his left ankle.

[ReadWestHam reported in July that Souček was expected to miss the opening weeks of the Championship campaign](https://readwestham.com/2026/07/16/tomas-soucek-injury-update/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), with reports at the time suggesting an absence of around six to eight weeks.

The latest **Tomas Soucek West Ham injury** update is significantly more positive.

## Tomas Soucek West Ham injury recovery ahead of schedule

ExWHUEmployee has now reported via [The West Ham Way](https://www.thewesthamway.com/2026/08/11/ahead-of-schedule-exwhuemployee-injuries-exits-update/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) that Souček is recovering well and could return earlier than initially expected.

The report adds that his recovery has progressed sufficiently for the outlook to improve, although West Ham have yet to publicly confirm a firm date for the 31-year-old’s return.

That will be welcome news for Nuno as West Ham prepare to begin their Championship campaign away to Burnley on Sunday.

Souček’s physical presence and ability to attack the penalty area could become particularly useful across a demanding 46-game season. His absence has also come at a time when West Ham’s midfield options remain under scrutiny during the final weeks of the transfer window.

There will be little benefit in rushing him back before the ankle is completely ready. However, the possibility of an earlier return would reduce the amount of time Nuno has to navigate without one of his most experienced midfielders.

West Ham initially entered the summer expecting Souček to miss the beginning of their promotion push.

The latest update suggests that wait may now be shorter than first feared.
