# £17m Troy Parrott deal can solve two major West Ham problems at once

**Troy Parrott could prove to be exactly the type of signing West Ham United need as Nuno Espírito Santo attempts to build a squad capable of winning promotion at the first attempt. A Troy Parrott West Ham move would add another proven goalscorer while also giving the Hammers a forward who could retain significant value beyond the Championship.**

West Ham have already made their interest concrete. [ReadWestHam reported earlier on Tuesday that AZ Alkmaar are reportedly looking for around €20million (£17m)](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/11/troy-parrott-deal-edges-closer-as-west-ham-learn-17m-asking-price/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), although their opening proposal was rejected.

For a Championship club, that represents serious money. Parrott’s profile, however, makes the potential gamble easier to understand.

## Why a Troy Parrott West Ham move makes sense

Parrott is only 24 and has already experienced English football at several different levels.

AZ’s official profile details loan spells with Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End before his career took off in the Netherlands. He scored 17 goals in 32 appearances for Excelsior before earning his move to AZ in 2024.

His development since then is the crucial point.

Parrott has become a far more accomplished goalscorer in Alkmaar, with reports crediting him with more than 50 goals across his two seasons at AZ. He has also produced decisive performances on the international stage for the Republic of Ireland.

Nuno already has Taty Castellanos, who opened his competitive campaign with two goals against Portsmouth. West Ham do not therefore need to sign somebody simply to fill a shirt.

They need competition strong enough to prevent their attack becoming dependent on one player across a 46-game Championship season.

Parrott would provide that.

## West Ham would be buying more than goals

There is another reason for West Ham to seriously consider stretching their budget.

Parrott is entering what should be the prime years of his career rather than approaching the end of them. A successful season in east London could therefore leave West Ham with an asset capable of playing in the Premier League if they secure promotion.

His situation at AZ also appears ready for a resolution. Head coach Leeroy Echteld recently acknowledged that Parrott is among the players who would like to take another step in their careers, explaining his decision to favour players expected to remain at the club.

West Ham have already shown their determination. [Their opening offer was rejected on Monday, but the club decided to continue pursuing Parrott](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/10/fresh-troy-parrott-twist-as-west-ham-make-decision-after-15m-bid-rejected/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) rather than immediately switching targets.

There is a price at which any Championship transfer becomes difficult to justify, and West Ham should not allow themselves to be dragged into an uncontrolled auction.

But around the reported £17m mark, Parrott offers something increasingly difficult to find: a 24-year-old striker with experience of English football, an improving scoring record and the potential to remain part of the project if promotion is secured.

West Ham need goals now without building only for one season.

Parrott could give them both.
