# West Ham eye shock Jamie Vardy move as striker search takes fresh turn

**West Ham United are reportedly keeping an eye on Jamie Vardy as Nuno Espírito Santo looks to add another striker before the transfer window closes.**

The former Leicester City forward is available on a free transfer after leaving Cremonese at the end of his contract this summer.

A fresh report on Monday says West Ham are monitoring the 39-year-old’s situation with three weeks remaining in the window, although there is no suggestion at this stage that talks have begun.

Vardy would offer a very different option to some of the other forwards currently being considered at the London Stadium.

## Jamie Vardy emerges as West Ham striker option

West Ham’s desire to strengthen their attack is already well established.

The Hammers have been pursuing AZ Alkmaar forward Troy Parrott, while [ReadWestHam identified another striker as one of Nuno’s main transfer priorities before the Championship opener against Burnley](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/09/solomon-medical-27m-striker-call-and-3-west-ham-transfer-priorities-before-burnley/).

Parrott would require a substantial transfer fee, but Vardy could be signed without West Ham having to negotiate with another club.

The former England international [left Cremonese following the expiry of his contract](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jamie-vardy-cremonese-next-steps-11038751) after spending one season in Italy.

Vardy scored seven times during his campaign with Cremonese and has continued training while deciding on his next move.

His age would make any deal a short-term solution, but his record in English football requires little introduction.

Vardy scored 200 goals in 500 appearances during 13 years with Leicester, winning both the Premier League and FA Cup before leaving the King Power Stadium in 2025.

West Ham already have Taty Castellanos among their attacking options, but Nuno appears keen to add another forward before the window shuts.

Vardy has now emerged as another name to watch.

There is a significant difference between monitoring a free agent and making a formal move, but his availability gives West Ham another potential route as they weigh up how best to strengthen their promotion push.
