# West Ham confirm permanent exit for Northern Ireland international

**West Ham United forward Callum Marshall has completed a permanent move to League One side Luton Town after nearly five years in east London.**

[The 21-year-old leaves the Hammers](https://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=140234) in search of regular senior football after making just three first-team appearances for the club.

Marshall joined West Ham from Linfield in January 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the academy’s leading prospects. He was part of the Under-18 side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2023, scoring in the 5-1 final victory over Jack Wilshere’s Arsenal.

The Northern Ireland international has since gained senior experience away from the London Stadium. He won Huddersfield Town’s Player of the Year award during the 2024/25 campaign before spending the second half of last season with Bochum in Germany.

## Callum Marshall leaves West Ham for Luton

Marshall has now decided his next step should be permanent rather than another loan. Speaking after completing the move, he said Luton had made him feel wanted and described working under Wilshere as one of the attractions.

“I want to be playing regularly, feeling part of something as a team,” Marshall said.

Wilshere already knew Marshall well from their academy encounters. The former West Ham midfielder was managing Arsenal’s Under-18s when Marshall scored against them in the 2023 FA Youth Cup final, and he believes the striker’s mentality will suit Luton.

Marshall’s departure also continues a significant summer of decisions involving West Ham’s academy graduates. [ReadWestHam examined the wider message created by Freddie Potts’ proposed departure on Sunday](https://readwestham.com/2026/08/02/freddie-potts-sale-sends-worrying-west-ham-academy-message/), questioning how the club balance raising transfer funds with maintaining a genuine first-team pathway.

For Marshall, however, the attraction is straightforward. He needs consistent senior minutes after several loan spells and limited opportunities at West Ham.

Luton can now offer him that opportunity in League One, while West Ham bring an end to a spell which began when Marshall arrived in east London as a 17-year-old.
