# “Stay positive”: West Ham defender confident of survival in the Premier League

West Ham United keep making strides in 2026. After starting the calendar year seven points from safety, the Hammers are [now level on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/06/west-ham-survival-situation-gameweek-29/), and one of the in-form sides in the Premier League. Not only that but on Monday night, [Nuno Espirito Santo’s team](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/12/west-ham-vs-manchester-city-premier-league-nuno-pre-match-26/) booked their place [in an FA Cup quarter final](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/09/west-ham-potential-fa-cup-opponent-confirmed/).

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/) have improved in every area of the pitch. Built on a strong defence, the attacking players are beginning to see more freedom. As a whole, the Iron’s look stronger as a group and as a team. One of the key members of the group, [Axel Disasi](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/11/axel-disasi-loving-west-ham-loan-spell/), is not only performing and loving his time at the club but he think’s the Hammers will be okay this season.

Speaking to the [club’s official website](https://www.whufc.com/en/news/disasi-or-im-confident-well-be-okay), the 28-year-old spoke about how the team had made him feel comfortable, allowing him to show his best form:

*“So far, my time at West Ham has been really nice, and everything has been only positive,”* he confirmed. *“My situation at Chelsea before was a little bit crazy, so it’s been great to come straight in and be part of the group, and everyone has been brilliant to me.*

*“The fans, the other players and the staff at the training ground, I have to say thank you to everyone, because straight away I felt part of the family, and that I am in the right place.*

*“There were a few players I knew or knew of before I arrived here, such as Alphonse \[Areola\], JC \[Todibo\] and Soungoutou \[Magassa\], which made the integration even easier.*

*“With Soungoutou, I saw him come through and make the transition from Academy to professional at Monaco, so it’s been nice to link up with him again and to see him doing well.*

*“It’s nice to have faces around that you know, but honestly everyone has been very friendly with me, and I’ve been made to feel very comfortable here right from the start.*

## Togetherness wins games at West Ham

Whilst [Paco Jemez](https://readwestham.com/2026/02/26/paco-jemez-west-ham-revival/) has helped Nuno revolutionise the defence at West Ham it is not the only thing that has changed at the Hammers. As [evident](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cdr222djyp3t) after the [FA Cup victory over Brentford](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/09/west-ham-2-2-brentford-fa-cup/), the group is fighting for one another, with a togetherness that wasn’t there at the start of the season.

[Disasi](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/05/opinion-axel-disasi-permanent-move/) knows this, and whilst those around the Irons faulter, this team keeps getting closer and better:

*“I think there’s real togetherness within the squad, and everyone has the same goal to make sure we achieve our objective of staying in the Premier League.*

*“When I arrived here, I realised that everyone is fighting together. Everyone knows we’re in a situation that none of us want to be in, and you can see that we have the quality to do much better.*

*“We just have to keep sticking together and build on what we’ve been doing over the last few weeks, and I’m confident we’ll be okay.”*

[West Ham return to Premier League action on Saturday night](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/12/west-ham-vs-manchester-city-preview-and-prediction-26/), hosting [Manchester City](https://readmancity.com/) at the London Stadium. A win would take the Hammers out of the bottom three for the first time in 2026.
