# West Ham vs Manchester City – Everything Nuno said pre-match

West Ham United return to Premier League action as they host Manchester City at the London Stadium. [The Hammers know that three points could take them out of the bottom three](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/06/west-ham-survival-situation-gameweek-29/) but face a huge test, with City chasing league leaders, [Arsenal](https://readarsenal.com/).

[Nuno Espirito Santo’s team](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/10/nuno-espirito-santo-on-west-ham-win-brentford-fa-cup/) kept the momentum going, [beating Brentford on penalties](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/09/west-ham-2-2-brentford-fa-cup/) on Monday night. The larger problem being is that star winger, [Crysencio Summerville](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/11/west-ham-crysencio-summerville-out-two-weeks/), is now set to miss some time with a calf injury.

Pep Guardiola’s team aren’t on the best stretch at the minute. [Manchester City](https://readmancity.com/) failed to beat Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League game but bounced back with an FA Cup win over [Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/). Unfortunately, the Cityzens fell to [Real Madrid](https://readrealmadrid.com/contact) in the Bernabeu and [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/) will be hoping that loss has left a hangover on the City squad.

## Nuno’s thoughts

On Summerville’s injury: *“It can happen at any moment. He was a big help to the team.”*

On [the positive atmosphere](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/10/jarrod-bowen-west-ham-fa-cup-win-brentford/) at West Ham, despite their league position: *“The togetherness, the unity has been amazing, realising that everyone is needed and must give their best.”*

On watching the team’s around the Hammers in the Premier League: *“I’m going to watch all of the games – some of them live, some of them afterwards. I watch all the games – not only the opponents that we have – from the perspective of work. Seeing what can I take – sometimes ideas, I try to steal them, try to apply them to our team. It’s always nice, it’s always helpful.”*

On [Mateus Fernandes](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/02/mateus-fernandes-on-liverpool-vs-west-ham-26/): *“He’s a young player who still has a lot to develop. He’s shown a lot of character and he always gives it his all.”*

On [Axel Disasi](https://readwestham.com/2026/03/11/axel-disasi-loving-west-ham-loan-spell/) and his impact: *“He’s integrated himself really well in the squad. He’s doing really well. Credit to him.”*

On if Erling Haaland changes the game plan against Manchester City: *“They have an identity so that any player that you put in immediately clicks. So many options, so many talented players.”*
