# David Moyes must now turn to Maxwel Cornet

**Amid a disappointing start to the season that sees West Ham head into the weekend inside the** [**bottom three**](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)**, David Moyes should turn to Maxwel Cornet to help solve their blunt attack.**

With [five defeats](https://www.flashscore.co.uk/team/west-ham/Cxq57r8g/results/) in their first seven Premier League fixtures, the Hammers have just four points from a possible 21 and hold the division’s [joint-worst attack](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) with just three goals.

Moyes has tended to switch between [Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/west-ham-united/37) on the left flank while Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen have tended to hold down the other two positions in the front three.

Cornet, meanwhile, has been limited to just [52 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234781) of Premier League action and has been used heavily in the Europa Conference League as Moyes shuffles his pack.

The Ivory Coast forward arrived from Burnley for  [£17.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12666254/maxwel-cornet-west-ham-sign-burnley-winger-for-17-5m-on-five-year-contract) deal this summer, having scored [nine goals in 26 Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/234781/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the Clarets last season.

Since his switch to the capital, the 26-year-old has already registered [five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234781) in Europe and despite being on the pitch for [12 minutes](https://www.sofascore.com/chelsea-west-ham-united/MsN) against Chelsea, he [fired into the net](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypN1FLRY1Xg) after a mix-up between Edouard Mendy and Reece James, only for it to be ruled after a [controversial VAR decision](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-chelsea-bowen-mendy-27901199).

Hailed as an ‘[exciting](https://www.footballinsider247.com/nottingham-forest-told-to-seal-maxwel-cornet-deal-as-new-17-5m-details-emerge-pundit/)’ player by former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, Cornet averaged [0.46](https://fbref.com/en/squads/943e8050/2021-2022/Burnley-Stats) goals per 90 minutes last season in the top flight.

It’s a tally that would have seen him rank first at West Ham ahead of Jarrod Bowen in that particular metric for the east Londoners ([0.36](https://fbref.com/en/squads/7c21e445/2021-2022/West-Ham-United-Stats)).

The [29-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/nationalmannschaft/spieler/234781/verein_id/3591) Ivory Coast ace has looked lively, despite restricted game-time since his move to the London Stadium, averaging [0.73 expected goals per 90](https://fbref.com/en/squads/7c21e445/West-Ham-United-Stats) in the league, with Tomas Soucek second with 0.19.

Given that Fornals has only managed one goal – a [deflected winner](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-highlights/video/36504/12684025/aston-villa-0-1-west-ham-premier-league-highlights) over Aston Villa – and no assists in his [seven domestic appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pablo-fornals/leistungsdaten/spieler/357885), while Benrahma is failing to have as much an [impact](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdaten/spieler/290532) off the bench, starting Cornet must be on Moyes’ mind as they look to solve their issues in front of goal.
