# Journalist cites who Moyes needs ‘more’ out of amid poor form

**Journalist Paul Brown insists David Moyes now needs ‘more’ from his summer arrivals amid West Ham’s early-season struggles.**

The Hammers spent around [£160m](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/west-ham-transfer-scamacca-exits-24910046) in the recent transfer window but head into the first international break of the season in [18th place](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).

A [1-0 defeat](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) to Everton last weekend was the east Londoners’ fifth of the campaign in what has been a dismal start to the season.

Stretching back to last term, it now means Moyes’ side have [won just two](https://www.flashscore.co.uk/team/west-ham/Cxq57r8g/results/) of their last 14 league games.

It’s a run that has led to considerable pressure being placed upon the Scottish boss, who [admitted](https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-40964234.html) after the loss on Merseyside that he has felt the form of his side slipping since as far back as February.

Considering the club has finished sixth and seventh in the last [two seasons](https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/25/West-Ham-United/season-history), the significant spending in the summer will have heightened expectations at the London Stadium and Brown has now stated that Moyes must get more out of his recent recruits.

He told [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88061953-west-ham-moyes-now-needs-more-from-170m-stars-at-london-stadium): “They are trying to fit a lot of new players into the team there who have not really shone yet and the manager looks like he is scratching around for answers, trying to work out what the best system to use is and which players he needs to play where.

“That’s probably natural for a team that made quite a lot of signings, and some of them quite late in the window, but he’s going to need more from some of those players who have come in.”

Despite Brown’s comments, Moyes hasn’t exactly used the personnel drafted in this summer.

£28m centre-back signing Nayef Aguerd is yet to feature having undergone [ankle surgery](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11047833/West-Hams-new-28m-signing-Nayef-Aguerd-undergoes-ankle-surgery-pre-season-injury-Rangers.html), while Gianluca Scamacca has been kept to just one [start](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/leistungsdaten/spieler/315867) domestically as he recovers from [illness](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/david-moyes-west-ham-tottenham-24900496).

[Thilo Kehrer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thilo-kehrer/leistungsdaten/spieler/228948) and [club record](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12682216/lucas-paqueta-signs-for-west-ham-from-lyon-in-club-record-51m-deal) arrival [Lucas Paqueta](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-paqueta/leistungsdaten/spieler/444523) have been regularly involved but bringing in [Maxwel Corne](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234781)t and Scamacaa could be something for Moyes to think about especially when the Irons hold the [worst attack](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the division, alongside Wolves.

There have also been calls for [Flynn Downes](https://twitter.com/Joshua_Mbu/status/1567982289472335872) to come into the side after impressing in [Europe](https://www.sofascore.com/west-ham-united-fcsb/Msbqb) himself.
