# Romano details late PSG attempt to snatch Gianluca Scamacca signing

**Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that PSG remained interested in signing Gianluca Scamacca before he finally ended up at West Ham this summer.**

The Hammers won the race to sign the Italian striker in a [£35.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12659015/gianluca-scamacca-west-ham-complete-35-5m-deal-for-sassuolo-striker) deal from Sassuolo after a breakout season in Serie A which saw the 23-year-old [score 16 times in 36 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/leistungsdaten/spieler/315867).

It finally brought to an end David Moyes’ search for another centre-forward having relied heavily on Michail Antonio ever since Sebastian Haller departed in January 2021.

Arsenal and PSG had also been credited with an interest in [Italy’s number nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/nationalmannschaft/spieler/315867) and Romano has now revealed how the Irons survived a late attempted hijack from the Parisians to secure the deal.

Speaking on his [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meQT4MualH4) he said: “Gianluca Scamacca, new striker from West Ham, they paid more than 40 million for Gianluca Scamacca to Sassuolo.

“But in the final hours of the negotiation, maybe West Ham fans remember that this deal took a long time to be completed maybe two days to complete everything to have the medical, to sign the contract, because Paris Saint-Germain wanted Scamacca for a long time and they tried until the end.

“Also, the night before the medical to change the story, to hijack the deal and to sign Gianluca Scamacca. It didn’t happen West Ham are happy with their new Italian striker, but PSG were really keen on Gianluca Scamacca and let’s see what will happen in the future with Scamacca.”

While Scamacca has missed each of the last [two games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/leistungsdaten/spieler/315867) for the Hammers he does seem to be n[earing a return](https://www.whufc.com/news/live-moyes-coufals-pre-fcsb-press-conference) to action.

Considering a club the size of PSG were admirers of the striker perhaps highlights his potential ability and with [comparisons](https://sempremilan.it/2022/03/17/scamacca-nel-mirino-delle-big-seguiro-il-cuore-essere-accostato-a-ibra-fa-piacere/?_gl=1*kvcyov*_ga*MTE1ODc5NzQzMC4xNjQ3NDM5MzQw*_ga_T81QCG9DQL*MTY1NTI5NzMwMy4xMS4wLjE2NTUyOTczMDMuNjA.*_ga_QD4TLL96E9*MTY1NTI5NzMxNy4xMC4wLjE2NTUyOTczMTcuNjA.) to Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his goalscoring prowess and size, it makes for exciting times for those at the London Stadium.
