# Virals: West Ham have ‘option to re-sign’ goalkeeper Alphonse Areola

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/03/21/opinion-said-benrahma-was-the-pick-of-the-bunch-in-damaging-epl-defeat/) reportedly have the ‘option to re-sign’ on loan goalkeeper [Alphonse Areola](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/28/virals-west-ham-facing-questions-over-future-of-alphonse-areola/) next season.

The 29-year-old has [spent the season](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) at the London Stadium from Paris Saint-Germain but has failed to usurp Lukasz Fabianski as number one.

Instead, the World Cup-winning stopper has acted as a reliable understudy to the experienced Pole and has been [limited](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) to cup outings.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3196311/2022/03/21/ornstein-saka-talks-over-new-deal-european-giants-want-gakpo-bowen-may-miss-europa-league-tie/?source=twitteruk), as cited by [Roshane Thomas](https://twitter.com/RoshaneSport/status/1505820459367022595) on Twitter, the Hammers could still bring the Frenchman back next season.

The report claims that West Ham are ‘keen to convert’ the [three-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/nationalmannschaft/spieler/120629/verein_id/3377) France ace into a permanent Iron and could do so for £11million this summer.

So far this season Areola has made [14 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/leistungsdaten/spieler/120629) across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £10.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/marktwertverlauf/spieler/120629)), signing the Parisian ace for the mooted fee would be a superb deal.

Despite being unable to oust Fabianski, Areola has [impressed](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) when called upon this term and could therefore be viewed as the long term replacement for the 36-year-old.

Perhaps another initial loan in order to save funds before eventually triggering the permanent move would be the wisest option for West Ham at this stage.
