# Steve McManaman lauds ‘brilliant’ West Ham moment

Former Premier League midfielder Steve McManaman was waxing lyrical when [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/03/18/opinion-rating-the-west-ham-players-from-a-history-defining-victory/) secured a late victory over Sevilla.

The Hammers [took the lead in the 112th minute](https://www.whufc.com/news/highlights-west-ham-2-0-sevilla) at the London Stadium as David Moyes’ side qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

A first-half goal from [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/27/opinion-david-moyes-should-axe-struggling-tomas-soucek-for-epl-clash/) took the tie into extra-time before Andriy Yarmolenko won the match.

Speaking on [BT Sport](https://www.bt.com/sport), McManaman was full of praise for the Ukrainian and Michail Antonio.

> Oh my word. What more can you say, Antonio again here is brilliant, the ball gets spread to Fornals, yes he’s onside. He’s got a five-yard tap in to be the hero, puts it away. What a moment, brilliant scenes here – Incredible.

That moment has handed the Irons a [meeting with French Ligue 1 side Lyon](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1504800546779189250) in the next round.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Written in the stars.

This has been some week for Yarmolenko, netting two match-winners following what must be a [traumatic spell](https://talksport.com/football/1062611/poignant-andriy-yarmolenko-tears-goal-west-ham-victory-aston-villa/) of horrific emotional impact in his home country.

All credit should go to the 32-year-old for being able to [carry on in such circumstances](https://www.sofascore.com/player/andriy-yarmolenko/41116) and indeed come up with moments of such quality.
