# Virals: West Ham ‘ready to compete’ for Jesse Lingard signing

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/03/04/virals-west-ham-interested-in-vfb-stuttgart-striker-sasa-kalajdzic/) are reportedly ‘ready to compete’ for the signature of Manchester United attacking midfielder [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/31/virals-west-ham-make-push-to-sign-manchester-united-ace-jesse-lingard/).

The 29-year-old ace was a [superstar](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jesse-lingard/205508) whilst on loan with the Hammers last season and had seemingly resurrected a stalling career.

However, having returned to Old Trafford, Lingard is now [ready to leave](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1498297734310334466) as a free agent this summer.

Despite strong interest from mega-rich Newcastle United, according to a report from [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/hammers-confident-of-landing-100k-a-week-midfielder/), West Ham are still in the mix to land the England international.

The report claims that the East London club ‘ believe they may be in the box seat’ for the [32-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) England ace as ‘several players’ prepare to leave in order to free up the wage bill.

So far this season Lingard has [scored twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in 18 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £18million and out of contract in June ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660)), signing the Englishman for nothing would still be a welcome addition to David Moyes’ attacking options.

Supremely [versatile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660) and still with plenty to prove at the elite level, West Ham would be hoping to benefit from a hungry Lingard once more.

Without a fee involved, the Hammers can afford to top up the wages on offer and given Lingard’s [happiness during the loan spell](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/jesse-lingard-west-ham-success-21848074) at the London Stadium, there must be a confidence within the club that this deal can be completed.
