# Virals: West Ham confirm ‘successful’ surgery for Vladimir Coufal

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/24/virals-west-ham-named-in-race-for-villarreal-star-arnaut-danjuma/) defender [Vladimir Coufal](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/02/virals-journalist-expects-david-moyes-to-make-bold-selection-call/) has undergone successful surgery on a groin injury.

The 29-year-old will now face a spell on the sidelines after the club [confirmed](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2022/february/24-february/vladimir-coufal-injury-update) the news late on Thursday evening (February 24).

Coufal missed the recent [1-1](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2022/february/20-february/extended-highlights-west-ham-united-1-1-newcastle-united) draw with Newcastle United having managed the issue for a prolonged period.

The statement read:

> West Ham United can confirm that Vladimir Coufal has had successful surgery on a groin injury. The 29-year-old defender has been troubled by an ongoing problem and, following specialist consultation, underwent an operation in London on Thursday morning.

Coufal has provided [four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/leistungsdaten/spieler/157672) in 26 appearances this season earning a [6.81 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/vladimir-coufal/138024) from 22 Premier League outings.

This comes as West Ham await their fate in the [Europa League draw](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/draws/). Albeit, David Moyes will almost certainly be without the Czech Republic international for the next round.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst the [26-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157672/verein_id/3445) ace’s form has certainly dipped this term, this news remains an untimely blow to Moyes’ plans.

Ironically it comes in the same week fellow right-back Ben Johnson [extended a stay](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10546633/West-Ham-activate-two-year-contract-extension-Ben-Johnson.html) at the London Stadium until 2024.

Could the 22-year-old be the man to replace the [£10.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/marktwertverlauf/spieler/157672) Coufal?
