# Virals: West Ham have ‘joined the chase’ to sign EFL star Lewis O’Brien

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/16/virals-west-ham-interested-in-torino-defender-ola-aina/) have reportedly ‘joined the chase’ to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

The Hammers are the [latest club to show an interest](https://the72.co.uk/263103/west-ham-united-keen-on-huddersfield-town-midfielder-lewis-obrien/) in the 23-year-old as Crystal Palace, Wolves, Burnley and Norwich City all remain keen.

This comes following a [failed switch](https://twitter.com/ExaminerHTAFC/status/1493669943606448129) to Premier League rivals Leeds United last summer.

Now, according to a report from [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/lewis-obrien-transfer-battle-prem-quintet-join-leeds-exclusive) the Irons are keen on the Englishman this summer.

The report claims that O’Brien – who has earned an impressive [7.01 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lewis-obrien/920936) in 30 Championship outings this term – also has a ‘release clause worth around £12million’ that many sides would be willing to activate.

This season the man once described as [‘very special’](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/lewis-obrien-is-a-very-special-talent-insists-huddersfield-town-head-coach-carlos-corberan-3486023) by Carlos Corberan has scored twice and provided two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £2.7million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-obrien/marktwertverlauf/spieler/560694)), signing O’Brien for the mooted £12million fee would still be a worthwhile venture.

Already an experienced operator in English football, the [vastly versatile star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-obrien/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/560694) would be a superb addition to David Moyes’ squad.

Boasting a host of [midfield attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/366083/Show/Lewis-O-Brien), this is a deal that is definitely worth pursuing in the summer as Mark Noble reaches the end of a stellar career in East London.
