# Virals: West Ham ‘extremely interested’ in Philippe Coutinho

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/15/virals-west-ham-keen-on-epl-midfielder-youri-tielemans/) are reported ‘extremely interested’ in signing [Philippe Coutinho](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/17/robbie-keane-lauds-unbelievable-technique-of-west-ham-ace-manuel-lanzini/) in the summer.

On loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona for the remainder of the season, the 29-year-old has made an [outstanding](https://www.sofascore.com/player/philippe-coutinho/119159) return to the Premier League so far.

Despite clearly sitting in the box seat, the Midlands club may [face competition](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12512540/aston-villa-transfer-news-philippe-coutinho-joins-on-loan-from-barcelona-until-the-end-of-the-season) from the Hammers and Arsenal to make the move permanent.

That’s according to a report from Spanish outlet [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/2-clubes-premier-league-interesados-coutinho-20220212.html), as cited by [RumorsTransfersNews24/7](https://twitter.com/rumorstransfers/status/1493306552232529920) on Twitter.

The report claims that the Irons are set to enter an ‘interesting race’ for the [63-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/80444/verein_id/3439) Brazil star as Barcelona look to maximise their earning potential.

So far this season Coutinho – described as [‘phenomenal’](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/coutinho-has-magical-powers-firmino-heaps-praise-upon-phenomenal-/g0yh5e5v41dm1hty0vp6wj909) by Roberto Firmino – has [scored four times and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdaten/spieler/80444) in 20 outings across spells in England and Spain.

Valued at £16.2million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/marktwertverlauf/spieler/80444)), signing the Brazilian attacking midfielder would likely cost in the region of the mooted [£33.4million option to buy price](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jan/07/aston-villa-agree-deal-to-sign-philippe-coutinho-on-loan-from-barcelona#:~:text=Aston%20Villa%20have%20sealed%20a,about%2065%25%20of%20his%20salary.) set in the loan terms.

Clearly still a player with plenty to offer at the top level, despite an ultimately [wretched big-money move](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/80444) to Catalonia, Coutinho would be a superb addition to David Moyes’ squad.

Possessing a [vast array](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho) of attacking attributes, the gifted ace would be the ideal replacement should Manuel Lanzini move on at the end of the season.
