# Pundit approves new deal for ‘brilliant’ West Ham ace Tomas Soucek

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has encouraged [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/14/pundit-unimpressed-by-controversial-west-ham-equaliser/) to reward [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2022/02/11/virals-west-ham-open-new-contract-talks-with-tomas-soucek/) with a new contract.

This comes following [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-opening-new-contract-talks-with-tomas-soucek/) claiming that the Hammers were indeed set to start talks regarding a new deal for the 26-year-old.

The combative midfielder has been a revelation since [joining the East Londoners](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/west-ham-tomas-soucek-transfer-17646740) and continues to impress alongside Declan Rice.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-news-pundit-wowed-by-tomas-soucek-after-sources-talks-update/), Whelan was full of praise for Soucek and certainly approved of the new contract speculation.

> What a find he has been – wow. He’s one of these players who has been so consistent for West Ham. He’s been brilliant defensively, but he’s also such a danger in that 18-yard box. He can do everything. He’s got aerial ability, aggression, one-v-one defending – he’s tremendous, and so is that goal return. A lot of teams have probably sat up and taken notice of him with just two years left, so West Ham have moved to tie him down. If anyone deserves a new deal, it’s definitely Soucek.

The [46-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/nationalmannschaft/spieler/283628/verein_id/3445) Czech Republic ace has earned a [6.97 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomas-soucek/799041) from 23 Premier League outings – a rare ever-present in David Moyes’ side.

Soucek has also [scored three times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdaten/spieler/283628) in 32 appearances this term.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

With [mooted interest](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/soucek-tipped-to-attract-interest-from-premier-league/1d7hn27o3s7q213lmhc72tdoy9) from English clubs and beyond, tying down the powerful midfielder is a shrewd move from the club.

A key component in Moyes’ ranks, the [£40.5million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/marktwertverlauf/spieler/283628) Soucek has to be a mainstay if West Ham are going to reach the desired heights.

Perhaps a new deal for his midfield cohort beckons also?
