# Virals: West Ham fans react to links with ‘proper striker’ Darwin Nunez

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/31/virals-epl-club-have-made-an-offer-for-west-ham-defender-issa-diop/) are understood to be ‘getting desperate’ in their attempts to sign Benfica striker [Darwin Nunez](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/31/virls-west-ham-launch-bid-to-sign-benfica-star-darwin-nunez/).

The Hammers [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10458229/West-Ham-launch-sensational-minute-bid-Benficas-45million-rated-striker-Darwin-Nunez.html) saw a bid fall on deaf ears as David Moyes attempts to bolster the attacking options at his disposal.

Now a fresh report from [Record](https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-bwin/benfica/detalhe/benfica-rejeitou-50-milhoes-darwin-fica?ref=HP_DestaquesPrincipais), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1488145635941437448) on Twitter, has claimed that the Irons would need a huge offer to sign the 22-year-old.

Unsurprisingly, the last-minute pursuit of Nunez has caused [consolation amongst the fanbase](https://twitter.com/OurKezz/status/1487884717663961093) on social media.

> Difficult deal to complete. He ain’t been on international duty for all 30 days of this month. Club is still a circus when it comes to transfers. \

This season the Uruguayan frontman has [scored 20 times and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/leistungsdaten/spieler/546543) in 25 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/546543)), signing Nunez for anything close to a previously mooted £45million asking price would be a superb piece of business.

Albeit an expensive outlay, the [seven-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darwin-nunez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/546543/verein_id/3449) star has been touted to a host of Europe’s elite clubs and looks readymade to star on the biggest stage.

All of this makes the anger amongst West Ham fans at the [timing of the charge](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2022/jan/31/transfer-deadline-day-premier-league-tottenham-newcastle-live-updates) all the more palpable and indeed understandable.
