# Virals: West Ham ‘in talks’ to sign Stade Reims striker Hugo Ekitike

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/29/virals-west-ham-to-test-resolve-of-leeds-united-for-raphinha/) have reportedly begun ‘talks’ to sign Stade Reims striker [Hugo Ekitike](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/26/virals-west-ham-make-new-offer-for-stade-reims-striker-hugo-ekitike/) during this January transfer window.

The Hammers had been widely [expected to make a move for a frontman](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/make-striker-sensation-number-one-target-january-transfer-window) this month and it looks as though the 19-year-old could be the chosen target.

Still pushing for a place in the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) top four, David Moyes will be hoping to find support for Michail Antonio in the final days before the deadline.

According to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/live-blog/11065/12476234/transfer-centre-live-no-new-pogba-contract-offer-since-last-summer?postid=3279560#liveblog-body), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_) on Twitter, a late move for Ekitike is on the cards.

The report claims that the Ligue 1 club will demand ‘in excess of €30million (£25million)’ for the [twice-capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hugo-ekitike/nationalmannschaft/spieler/709726/verein_id/9323) France Under 20 starlet.

This season Ekitike – who has been [linked](https://www.90min.com/posts/psg-join-newcastle-in-race-for-hugo-ekitike) to Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain – has [scored eight times and provided four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hugo-ekitike/leistungsdaten/spieler/709726) in 20 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Holding a market value of £5.4million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hugo-ekitike/marktwertverlauf/spieler/709726)), signing the French youngster for the mooted asking price would be considered slightly over the odds.

Despite making an [impressive start](https://www.sofascore.com/player/hugo-ekitike/1048422) to life in the top-flight, this is the forward’s first taste of elite action.

Whilst the Hammers are nearing the desperate need for a frontman and Ekitike may well have a [sky-high future](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/who-hugo-ekitike-teenage-wonderkid-22708363) in the game, there is perhaps better value for money to be had elsewhere.
