# Virals: West Ham interested in Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/26/virals-west-ham-make-new-offer-for-stade-reims-striker-hugo-ekitike/) are reportedly interested in Nottingham Forest central defender [Joe Worrall](https://readwestham.com/2020/01/09/west-ham-linked-with-nottingham-forest-defender-joe-worrall/).

The Hammers are believed to remain in the hunt for [defensive reinforcements](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) as the January transfer window enters its final few days.

Having previously been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, [Dan Woffenden](https://twitter.com/danwoff98/status/1271124634012979202) poured over the ace’s merits in 2020 on Twitter.

> E. Joe Worrall (Nottingham Forest)

> Recently linked with West Ham and I can see why. At 23, Worrall has barely hit his prime and has been fantastic for Forest this season.

> He’d provide great competition and is more than capable of becoming Ogbonna’s regular CB partner. [pic.twitter.com/qGHQzFHehl](https://t.co/qGHQzFHehl)

Now a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3092565/2022/01/26/keeping-brennan-johnson-would-be-a-statement-of-intent-but-forest-have-a-plan-if-he-goes/) has claimed that the Irons retain a long-standing interest in the [three-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/nationalmannschaft/spieler/415970/verein_id/9565) England Under 21 starlet.

Concentrating on the east London admiration of highly-rated forward Brennan Johnson, the report also states that West Ham are keen on Worrall as David Moyes [seeks cover](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-david-moyes-defender-january-transfer-b970758.html) for Angelo Ogbonna.

This season the man described as [‘outstanding’](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-compares-kyle-lafferty-13282171) by Steven Gerrard has earned a [7.08 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joe-worrall/838399) from 22 Championship outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £3.6million and under contract at the City Ground until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/marktwertverlauf/spieler/415970)), a previously mooted [£12million asking price](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8725515/Burnley-make-8m-Mainz-attacker-Robin-Quaison.html) would be an affordable pursuit for the Hammers.

However, outside of [21 Scottish Premiership appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/415970) whilst on loan at Rangers, Worrall hasn’t experienced top-flight football in what is to dte a promising career.

Whilst the captures of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma would suggest amassing an abundance of Premier League experience isn’t necessarily a must for Moyes, signing a player [without](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/415970) would certainly be a red flag.

Perhaps a move for [heavily linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10436233/West-Ham-keen-signing-Liverpool-defender-Nat-Phillips-month.html) Liverpool defender Nat Phillips would be a safer bet.
