# Virals: West Ham ‘interested’ in FC Schalke star Malick Thiaw

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/26/virals-west-ham-fans-encourage-no-brainer-swoop-for-duje-caleta-car/) are reportedly ‘interested’ in FC Schalke 04 central defender [Malick Thiaw](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/26/virals-liverpool-offer-strong-competition-for-schalke-ace-malick-thiaw/).

The Hammers are believed to have joined AC Milan, Napoli and Liverpool in their [admiration](https://twitter.com/MilanEye/status/1486064591272562692?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1486064591272562692%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Freadliverpoolfc.com%2F2022%2F01%2F26%2Fvirals-liverpool-offer-strong-competition-for-schalke-ace-malick-thiaw%2F) of the 20-year-old ace.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is likely to be on the lookout for a centre-back in order to supplement the [loss of Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12473330/angelo-ogbonna-west-ham-defender-undergoes-knee-surgery-after-damaging-acl#:~:text=Angelo%20Ogbonna%20has%20undergone%20surgery,prior%20to%20the%20international%20break.) for the remainder of the season.

According to a report from [Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-il-milan-pensa-all-acquisto-di-thiaw-il-napoli-c-e-per-giugno-lo-schalke-lo-tiene-per-la-salvezza-1638172), as cited by [Milan Eye](https://twitter.com/MilanEye/status/1486272531963301891) on Twitter, West Ham could make a late swoop for the German.

The report claims that the Rossoneri are ‘considering the purchase’ of the [six-cap Germany Under 21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malick-thiaw/nationalmannschaft/spieler/521964/verein_id/3817) as other clubs watch on.

This season Thiaw has earned an impressive [7.13 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/malick-thiaw/1014286) from 20 2. Bundesliga outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £4.5million and under contract in Germany until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malick-thiaw/marktwertverlauf/spieler/521964)), signing the talented youngster would be a relatively inexpensive venture.

Predominantly a central defender, Thiaw can also [play on either side as a full-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malick-thiaw/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/521964) and in a defensive midfield role, making him a wholly viable option to boost Moyes’ squad.

Albeit still [inexperienced](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malick-thiaw/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/521964) at the elite level, Thiaw possesses the physical attributes to make the step up and as such West Ham should be attentive to the possible capture.
