# Virals: West Ham ‘want’ Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/20/virals-west-ham-starlet-goncalo-cardoso-set-for-loan-switch-to-real-betis/) are reportedly among a number of clubs who ‘want’ to sign Chelsea central defender [Malang Sarr](https://readwestham.com/2019/06/19/west-ham-identify-malang-sarr-as-possible-issa-diop-replacement/).

The Hammers are [believed to be keen](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1553117/Chelsea-transfer-news-Malang-Sarr-Newcastle-Everton-West-Ham-Leicester) on the 22-year-old alongside interest from Leicester City, Newcastle United and Everton.

Signed as a [free agent from OGC Nice](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53935903) in 2020, Sarr made [27 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malang-sarr/leistungsdaten/spieler/344596/plus/0?saison=2020) for Portuguese giants FC Porto whilst on loan last season.

Having stayed in London this term, a report from [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a4651531518353987575-chelsea-4-clubs-reclament-malang-sarr-en-pret), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00) on Twitter, has claimed that the Irons are in the mix.

The report claims that the Blues would be reluctant to see the [France Under 21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malang-sarr/nationalmannschaft/spieler/344596/verein_id/9323) leave the club in the January window.

So far the man hailed as [‘reliable’ and ‘very strong’](https://tribuna.com/en/news/chelsea-2022-01-08-he-shows-he-can-be-strong-teammate-thomas-tuchel-praise-reliable-malang-sarr-after-totten/) by Thomas Tuchel has played [nine times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malang-sarr/leistungsdaten/spieler/344596) for Chelsea across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst a central defensive addition is a nigh-on must for David Moyes’ squad this month, signing a first-team squad member from a genuine [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) rival looks like an unlikely prospect.

At present just seven points separate West Ham and Chelsea with the Hammers having a [game in hand](https://www.google.com/search?q=west+ham+fixtures&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB885GB885&oq=west+ham+fixtures&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j0i512l4j69i60l3.2016j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#sie=t;/m/0ckf6;2;/m/02_tc;mt;fp;1;;) to come.

Albeit the [£5.4million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malang-sarr/marktwertverlauf/spieler/344596) Frenchman would be a smart loan capture to follow Kurt Zouma across London, it’s almost impossible to forsee the Stamford Bridge sanctioning this deal.
