# Virals: West Ham ‘keeping an eye on’ Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/18/virals-west-ham-among-clubs-looking-at-fenerbahce-defender-attila-szalai/) are reportedly ‘keeping an eye on’ the development of Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey.

The Hammers have previously been linked with a move for the 19-year-old Scot and popular club insider ExWHUemployee has [confirmed](https://twitter.com/FromTheAnvilWHU/status/1481153464658923524) the interest.

Now, journalist Peter O’Rourke has told [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/1821530-irons-transfer-news-west-ham-keeping-eye-on-19-yo-compared-to-gareth-bale) that the Irons are continuing to track the teenager.

Signed from Scottish Premiership side Hearts in September 2020 for  £1.5million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53979108)), Hickey has become a mainstay for the Serie A outfit.

This season the starlet once described as ‘quality’ in [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/) has scored [four times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/leistungsdaten/spieler/591949) in 20 league appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £11.7million and under contract in Italy until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/marktwertverlauf/spieler/591949)), signing the Scotland Under 21 ace would prove to be a far more expensive venture than some 18 months ago.

However, as long-term successors to [Aaron Cresswell](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/13/west-ham-fans-applaud-outstanding-aaron-cresswell-display-on-social-media/) go, few are more suited than Hickey.

An [attack-minded](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/402367/Show/Aaron-Hickey) full-back with an eye for goal, the Glasgow-born youngster has all the potential to emulate Cresswell as an Iron and could be the ideal option to act as cover next season.
