# Virals: West Ham among clubs ‘looking at’ Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/17/robbie-keane-lauds-unbelievable-technique-of-west-ham-ace-manuel-lanzini/) are reportedly among a host of clubs ‘looking at’ Fenerbache central defender [Attila Szalai](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/27/virals-west-ham-see-10-3m-attila-szalai-bid-rejected/).

The Hammers have been [named alongside](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/moyes-looks-to-turkey-west-ham-newcastle-target-giant-defender-attila-szalai-wanted-by-chelsea) Newcastle United, Chelsea and AC Milan as those believed to be keen on the towering 23-year old.

Already [capped on 23 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/attila-szalai/nationalmannschaft/spieler/263380/verein_id/3468) by Hungary at the senior international level, Szalai has caught the eye with performances for both club and country.

According to a report from [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12518542/attila-szalai-west-ham-newcastle-showing-interest-in-fenerbahce-central-defender), as cited by [Dharmesh Sheth](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth) on Twitter, the Irons could move for the ace.

> Interest from Premier League & Serie A in Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai. West Ham United, Newcastle United & AC Milan looking at him. All in the market for a centre-back. The report claims that West Ham are ‘showing interest’ in the [former Apollon Limassol man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/attila-szalai/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/263380) who could cost in the region of £16.7million.

This season Szalai – whose development has been described as [‘amazing’](https://www.besoccer.com/new/attila-szalai-hungary-s-euro-2020-breakout-prospect-1005154) by Gergely Marosi – has earned a [6.83 average Sofacore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/attila-szalai/823092) from 19 Super Lig appearances.

Valued at £13.5million and under contract in Turkey until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/attila-szalai/marktwertverlauf/spieler/263380)), signing the left-footed Hungarian for the mooted fee would represent value for money.

Albeit [previously untested](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/attila-szalai/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/263380) amongst Europe’s elite leagues, Szalai played every minute of Euro 2020 in a group containing France, Germany and Portugal.

That experience is almost certain to have acted as an [eye-opener](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/news/0257-0e1a9292c2e6-cdb6aedd1778-1000--uefa-euro-2020-group-f-hungary-portugal-france-germany/) for the defender and may endear David Moyes to the signing further.
