# Virals: West Ham ‘in pole’ to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/14/virals-west-ham-race-to-sign-palmeiras-starlet-danilo/) are reportedly ‘in pole’ for the signing of Olympique Marseille midfielder [Boubacar Kamara](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/19/virals-west-ham-hold-an-interest-in-boubacar-kamara/).

The 22-year-old is wanted by the Hammers and [Newcastle United](https://www.givemesport.com/1819967-newcastle-transfer-news-fresh-claim-emerges-over-119goal-talent-once-priced-at-45m) ahead of a contract expiry at the end of the season.

Hailed as a [‘phenomenon’](https://en.africatopsports.com/2020/05/30/marseille-rolando-praises-qualities-of-boubacar-kamara/) by former teammate Rolando, the France Under 21 international has already started making waves on Ligue 1.

According to a report from [Corriere dello Sport (print edition January 13th, page 19)](https://www.pressreader.com/italy/corriere-dello-sport/20220113), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1481613597667168260) on Twitter, the Irons are at the front of the pursuit.

The report claims that the [nine-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/boubacar-kamara/nationalmannschaft/spieler/394327/verein_id/9323) youth star is ‘liked a lot’ in the Premier League and as a result may arrive this summer.

So far this season the defensive-minded midfielder has earned an impressive [7.01 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/boubacar-kamara/826204) from 16 league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £22.5million and out of contract in six months ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/boubacar-kamara/marktwertverlauf/spieler/394327)), signing Kamara for free would be an outstanding piece of business for any club.

Albeit David Moyes’ [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) is relatively well-stocked in the central midfield department, Mark Noble’s imminent retirement and the struggles of Alex Kral may see further reinforcement needed.

Just a matter of months younger than birthday boy Declan Rice, the Frenchman possesses [plenty of similar qualities](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/331790/Show/Boubacar-Kamara) to the current West Ham star and could form a long-term partnership for many years to come.
